Many Avery parents are well into the process of researching candidates for the important election date coming up on November 2, 2010 – after all, early voting has already started in Cherokee County! But whether you are almost ready to cast your vote or you are just beginning to learn about the candidates, Avery PTA encourages you to learn all you can and be prepared to vote for candidates you believe will best represent the values and views of your family.
Here is the general district information for Avery Elementary:
Your corrected address is:
6391 E Cherokee Dr Canton GA 30115-6059
Your districts are:
State: Georgia
County: Cherokee
US Congress District: Congressional District 6
State Upper House District: Senate District 27
State Lower House District: House District 21
In addition to keeping up with the campaign literature in your mailbox and the articles regularly published in our various news sources, here are some websites you may want to consider exploring:
Published by the Elections Division of the office of the Georgia Secretary of State, this website gives a complete listing of qualified candidates for statewide races as well as US and state congressional races; seats on the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the superior courts of Georgia; district attorneys; and the text of the Proposed Constitutional Amendments and State-wide Referendum Question that will also be on the ballot in November.
Published by the offices of Cherokee County Elections and Voter Registration, this website has a wealth of information for Cherokee County voters. One especially helpful document can be accessed from the home page of this site – on the right hand side under “News and Events,” click on the link to view the Cherokee County Consolidated Sample Ballot. A link to this Sample Ballot can also be found on our Avery PTA website. Also helpful are the details on Early Voting (September 17 through October 22), Advance Voting (October 25 through October 29), and Voting by Mail.
Produced by the League of Women Voters of Georgia, this Georgia Voter Guide allows you to enter your street address to create a sample ballot; once you have entered the information, the guide will allow you to page through a list of candidates for each office. As you review each page (with one page for each race), you have the option of selecting candidate(s) and reading their responses to a questionnaire; this section also provides links to the websites for individual candidates. The Guide also gives you the option of “choosing” a candidate for each race and emailing yourself with a completed “customized ballot” – a sort of cheat sheet you can take with you to the polls to remind you which candidate you’ve decided to vote for. DISCLAIMER: the information on the state-wide races is fairly complete, but for some of the local races, you may find that not all of the candidates are listed. Use the sample ballot published by the Cherokee County Elections and Voter Registration office for a complete listing of candidates for the local races.
