Day 38+1: More Bills With Action; Senate Cuts School Nurses Even More by Sally FitzGerald on 4/22/2010
The legislative habit of combining bills at the end of the session so that more can pass is evident in this report. This activity is sometimes known as 'code shopping', because when combining two bills, they both must be in the same code section of the law. More of that will be taking place in the final two days of this session. Because this is the second year of a two year term, no legislation will carry over to next year.
This weekend, there will be posted a report on the final FY10 budget, and the two versions of the FY11 budget which is now in conference committee. The Senate version removed another $750,000 from the school nurses line item. Call your representative or your senator this weekend and indicate that PTA is willing to take the same level of cuts everyone else has to take, but no more. Students need school nurses.
The General Assembly will reconvene on Tuesday, April 27, for Day 39. It and Day 40 will be long days.
