oeJParenting Magazine's new initiative called MOM Congress was a topic at the National PTA Convention this year.  While this is not a PTA-sponsored event, however  we are forwarding this link to our parents because we truly believe that we should not underestimate OUR power to change education for the better in this country.  This link will take you to a petition.  The letter introducing the petition is non-partisan, but gets to the matter of what's wrong with "No Child Left Behind" today.

Regardless of your personal politics, the facts are that in the last 30 years we, as a nation, have gone from first in math and science to ranking somewhere in the mid 20's.  And with more and more of the world's existence depending upon advanced technologies and systems to survive, now is not the time to debate that education matters.   In the Atlanta metro area alone it's been calculated* that had the drop out rate been improved in metro Atlanta, we would have $4.2B MORE tax revenues because our citizens' education would have demanded higher paying jobs.  Higher Education = Better Workforce = More Innovation = More Job Creation = Better Economy...

Please spread this information to your friends and family so that we may right this ship!

If we don't speak up, WHO will?  Don't let lobbyists turn our representatives' heads away from this issue.  Imagine if every parent signed this petition?  We think Congress just might hear...please forward as you see fit.

Never forget that we the small but mighty can do great things.

(Psst, Dads can join and sign the petition, too.  It's just that Parenting Magazine's demographics show that their base is something like 85% moms, hence the name MOM Congress).
