Would you like to be more involved at Avery? We need you! There are many committees that you can work with to help plan and coordinate PTA programs and activities for the benefit of all our children. Have a flare for the arts? Join our Reflections or Fine Arts committees. Are you a parent who works outside of the home? Help bridge PTA activities for parents who may want to help in non-traditional ways. Whatever your niche, we have a committee for you!
Chair: Erica Reese
Willing to help out in any way you can? Classroom assistants help in classes that don’t have room moms or other parent volunteers, or in classes that just need extra assistance. We will have various needs throughout the year, so if you think you’d be interested for either long or short-term help, let us know.
|Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl
Chair: Kristi Eno
Volunteers support the teacher sponsor as she leads the Reading Bowl team. Activities will include event promotion, preparation and other assistance.
|Hospitality – Teacher and Staff Appreciation
Chair: Kerri Robinson
Throughout the year, with lunches, little surprises, and pick-me-ups, this committee provides encouragement, support, and thanks to all of the Avery staff. A great group to volunteer with if you would like to help from home and/or a monthly basis.
Chair: Becca Palmer
More than 200 Avery Cubs participated in this program last year to help improve their math scores. Volunteers are needed to help grade papers, return papers to classrooms, keep records of participation and organize a small, end of year party.
|Media Center Volunteers
Chair: Mary Long
PTA coordinates the scores of volunteers needed to help Mrs. Blakey in the Media Center throughout the year. Your level of involvement depends on your availability — no matter how big or small, whether one time or every week! Let us know if you’d like to be contacted by the Media Center Volunteer Coordinator for more information.
Chair: Desiree Jacobs

We could use a few people to organize, collect and distribute spiritwear orders, as well as determine winter (and even NEXT spring’s) designs.
|Trash for Cash
Chair: Jill Moser
Can you help cut or count Box Tops? Could you enter Coke Rewards/Kellogg’s Family Rewards codes at home or here at school? Could you help box and mail Terra Cycle items? We need your help! Each year, Avery makes THOUSANDS of dollars in “free money” by turning in these items — but it’s a huge job and we need your help to keep it going!
Chair: Charlyce Hurdle

Avery is a beautiful building made even more beautiful with our support of the Fine Arts. Work with this group to bring the students’ artwork alive throughout the building as well as help to showcase the Arts throughout the year in a variety of creative ways, including an evening STEAM (Science, Technology, Arts, Math) celebration on November 17th.
Chair: Wendy Sams
The arts, our Avery Cubs, and PTAs across Georgia and our nation come together for this celebration of the arts. Students submit artwork, poetry, musical performances, and more in this national PTA-organized competition. Help at Avery is needed to promote the program as well as to gather the entries and organize a breakfast in their honor.
Each year, Avery PTA gives thousands of dollars to teachers for needed classroom materials. Volunteers are needed to promote program and review grant requests, which are written by teachers.
Chair: Cindy Tyler
Volunteers work under the direction of a PTA chairperson and Mr. Boggs to organize this awesome night. Date set for March, tentatively.
|Vision & Hearing Screenings
Chair: Tosha Smith
Every year, PTA organizes dozens of volunteers to help screen students for hearing and vision during the fall. This is one of the most rewarding tasks of PTA — knowing that we’re helping to make sure a child can see or hear at school!
